śloka 1
pārthayā pratibodhitaṃ bhagavat nārāyaṇa svayaṃ
vyāseṇa grahītama purāṇa muninā madhya mahābhārata
advaitamṛtavarṣiṇīm bhagavatīmaṣṭadasādhyānīm
ambā tvāmanusandadhāmi bhagavadgītā bhavedveśinim
Translation
Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, which Bhagavan Narayana Himself spoke to Arjuna, and which the ancient sage Vedavyasa wrote in the midst of the Mahabharata, and which flows with that nectar that becomes Advaita—O Goddess of eighteen chapters, O Mother, I remember you who destroy the obstacles of speech.
śloka 2
namo'stute vyāsa vasalabuddha
phullaravindayātpatranetra
yena tvayā bharathailapūrṇā
prajjavalito jñānamayaḥ pradīpaḥ
Translation
Salutations to the great sage Vedavyasa, who filled the lamp with the oil of the Mahabharata and kindled the lamp of knowledge to illuminate the world, whose eyes are like the petals of an open lotus flower and who is broad-minded.
śloka 3
prapannapārijātāya totravetraikapāṇaye .
jñānamudrāya kṛṣṇāya gītāmṛtaduhe namaḥ .. 3 ..
Translation
Salutations to Bhagavan Shri Krishna, who fulfills all the desires of those who take refuge in Him, who wields the whip and staff, who bears the gesture of knowledge, and who drinks the nectar of the Gita.
śloka 4
sarvopaniṣado gau dogdhā gopālanandanaḥ
pārtho vatsaḥ sudhīrbhoktā dugdhaṃ gītāmṛtaṃ mahat
Translation
All the Upanishads are the cows, the cowherd is Shri Krishna, the calf is Arjuna, and the milk is the nectar of the Gita; those who partake of it become wise.
śloka 5
vāsudevasutaṃ devaṃ kaṃsacānūramardanam
devakīparamānandaṃ kṛṣṇaṃ vande jagadgurū
Translation
I offer salutations to Bhagavan Shri Krishna, the son of Vasudeva, the slayer of Kansa and Chanura, who delights Devaki, and who is the Guru of the world.
śloka 6
bhīṣmadroṇatatā jayadrathajalā gaṃdharānilotapalā
śalyagṛhavati kṛpeṇa vahni karṇena velakulā
aśvatthāmā vikarṇa ghoramakārā duryodhanavarthī
sothirnā khalu pāṃḍavai rānānādi kaivartakaḥ kesavaḥ
Translation
The Pandavas crossed the impenetrable rock of Bhishma and Drona on both banks, the water of Jayadratha, the black rock of Gandhara, the crocodile of Shalya, the current of Kripa, the tide of Karna, the terrible sharks of Ashvatthama and Vikarna, and the whirlpool of Duryodhana—only by the grace of Bhagavan, the divine boatman.
śloka 7
pārāsaryavācaḥ sarojamāmalaṃ gītārthagaṇḍotkadam
nānākhyānakakesaraṃ harikathāsaṃbodhanabodhitam
loke sajjanaśatpadairaharahaḥ pepiyāmānaṃ mudā
bhūyadbharatapaṃkajaṃ kalimalapradhvamasi naḥ śreyase
Translation
The lotus flower which is the Mahabharata, may it fill our impurities with the pure nectar which is the words of Vyasa, the son of sage Parashara; the fragrance is that of the Gita; the lily petals are the various narratives, the well-told stories of Bhagavan Krishna; the bees which are the beings of the world come and drink the honey every day.
