Bhagavad Gita
Bhagavad Gita on Career and Work
The Gita’s battlefield setting is not a modern workplace. Readers still turn to it for how to act when duty is heavy and results are uncertain.
Krishna is speaking to Arjuna about svadharma, not about job-switching or corporate strategy. Use the verses as they stand.
Bhagavad Gita 2.47
Action is yours; the fruit is not a right you can claim.
You have the right to action only, never to its fruits. Do not be the cause of the fruits of action, nor let attachment to inaction arise in you.
Bhagavad Gita 3.8
Perform necessary action; action is superior to inaction.
Perform your ordained (duty) action, for action is superior to inaction. Without action, even the maintenance of your body would not be accomplished.
Bhagavad Gita 3.19
Do work that must be done, without attachment.
Therefore, without attachment, always perform your duty properly; for the unattached man, performing action attains the Supreme Self.
Bhagavad Gita 3.35
Better is one’s own duty, even without excellence, than the duty of another well done.
Better is one's own Dharma though imperfect than the Dharma of another well performed; death in one's own Dharma is beneficial, but the Dharma of another brings fear.
Bhagavad Gita 18.46
A person reaches perfection by worshipping through their own work.
By worshipping Him (the Paramatman) through one's own duty—He from whom all beings have arisen and by whom this entire world is pervaded—a person attains perfection.
